How much does a bathroom remodel cost in the Lehigh Valley?

Written by Lehigh Valley Bath & Kitchen · Updated August 31, 2026

It's the first question almost everyone asks, and the honest answer is: it depends. A bathroom remodel can run anywhere from a few thousand dollars for a light refresh to well over thirty thousand for a gutted, reconfigured primary suite. What follows is a plain look at what moves that number, and roughly where local projects tend to land, so you can set a realistic budget before you talk to anyone.

What actually drives the price

Two bathrooms the same size can cost very differently. These are the things that move the number the most:

  • Size and layout. A powder room is a fraction of the work of a full bath. And keeping fixtures where they are costs far less than moving the toilet, tub, or sink, which means new plumbing lines.
  • How far you go. New paint, vanity, and fixtures is one thing. Taking it down to the studs, re-waterproofing, and re-tiling is another.
  • Finishes. Stock vanity and ceramic tile sit at one end; custom cabinetry, natural stone, and a frameless glass shower sit at the other.
  • The age and condition of the house. Many Lehigh Valley homes are decades old. Once a wall or floor is open, hidden water damage, old wiring, or cast-iron plumbing can turn up and add to the job.

Typical Lehigh Valley ranges

These are general ranges for our area, not a quote. Your project could land outside them in either direction. They're meant to help you sanity-check a budget.

  • Refresh (keep the layout): commonly in the mid-single-digit to low-teens of thousands. New vanity, toilet, fixtures, paint, and often a tub or shower surround, without moving plumbing.
  • Full remodel: commonly from the low teens into the mid-twenties of thousands. A complete tear-out and rebuild in the same footprint, with new tile, waterproofing, vanity, and fixtures.
  • Gut and reconfigure or primary suite: often the mid-twenties and up. Moving walls or plumbing, larger footprints, custom tile, and higher-end finishes.

A quick reality check

The single fastest way to raise the cost is to move plumbing. If you can live with the toilet, tub, and sink roughly where they are, you keep the biggest cost lever in check. If the layout genuinely doesn't work, it's often worth the money — just go in knowing that's the trade.

Where the money goes

In a typical full bathroom remodel, labor is usually the largest slice, because a bathroom packs plumbing, waterproofing, tile, electrical, and finish work into a small space. Tile and the shower or tub tend to be the next biggest line, followed by the vanity and cabinetry, then fixtures and lighting. That's why two projects with the same fixture budget can differ a lot: the tile work and the waterproofing behind it are where craftsmanship and hours add up.

Ways to keep it in budget

  • Keep the layout. As above — this is the big one.
  • Mix your finishes. Spend on the pieces you touch and see every day, and save on the ones you don't.
  • Decide before demo. Changing your mind mid-project is what blows budgets. Lock in selections up front.
  • Don't cut the waterproofing. It's invisible, so it's tempting to save there. Don't. A failed shower pan is the most expensive thing to fix twice.

The best way to get a real number

Ranges only get you so far. The accurate number comes from a remodeler seeing your actual room — its size, its condition, and the finishes you want. That visit is free and carries no obligation, and it's the point where a ballpark turns into a plan you can act on. You can also try the cost estimator on our homepage for a quick starting range.
